The Larimer County 4-H Foundation
offers scholarships each year

The Larimer County 4-H Foundation offers scholarships each year for current graduating seniors and post high school students in the form of memorial scholarships and general scholarships as the budget allows.
The general scholarships are for $1000 each and do not specify a certain field of study. Each of the general scholarships is funded directly by the Foundation.

2023 scholarship winners

​The Larimer County 4-H Foundation was honored to present 25 4-Hers with educational scholarships in June 2023. The scholarships, which totaled $25,000, will be used toward furthering each 4-Her’s education at a college, university or vocational training facility.​​

LARIMER COUNTY 4-H YOUTH FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

1. The Larimer County 4-H Foundation provides a scholarship program. At the discretion of the Larimer County 4-H Foundation, depending on the number of applications received, the applications may be divided into two categories: (a) seniors in high school along with first year secondary education attendees and (b) applicants that have completed their first year of secondary education.

2. Scholarships may be used for college, university or for vocational training for not less than a six month period. (Exceptions to this requirement may be made at the discretion of the Committee.) Scholarships may vary in amount depending upon the type of training applied for, particular scholarship requirement, and number of applicants.
3. To be eligible for these scholarships, the following requirements must be met by the applicant;

  • High school senior currently enrolled in Larimer County 4-H, College, University or Vocational student who has successfully completed four (4) years of 4-H Club work, at least three of which must be in Larimer County. 
  • Financially supported the Larimer County 4-H Foundation by selling the designated number of Carnival tickets for previous four (4) years enrolled in Larimer County 4-H. (Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the Committee.)
  • Positive character as reflected by references.
  • An individual may apply even if not currently attending a college, university or vocational school of training, as long as it is within the last five years of Larimer County 4-H enrollment.

4. A winner of a Larimer County 4-H Scholarship may reapply for one or all the scholarships in following years. Scholarships are to be used for undergraduate course of study. Previous winners will not receive preferential consideration over any other candidate.

5. Specific 4-H scholarships offered:

  • Tom & Peggy Brown Memorial Scholarship – $1,000 This Scholarship is to be used for furthering education at a College, University, or Vocational training facility. No specific field of study.
  • Marjorie J. Gorman Memorial Scholarship – $1,000 These applicants must have successfully completed three years of 4-H work with a Consumer Family Sciences background. This scholarship is to be used for furthering education at a College, University, or Vocational training facility.  No specific field of study.
  • Glenn & Minnie Cowley Memorial Scholarship – $500 This Scholarship is to be used for furthering education in an agriculture related field of study.
  • Poultry Memorial Scholarship – 2 Scholarships – $1000 each These applicants must have a 4-H Poultry background. This scholarship is to be used for furthering education at a College, University, or Vocational training facility.  No specific field of study.
  • Michael Dickinson Memorial Scholarship – 2 scholarships – $1,000 each These applicants must have a Dairy or Livestock background. These scholarships will be awarded with a preference for applicants furthering their education in a dairy-related field of study or a secondary selection would be entering an agriculture field of study.
  • Ted & Mabel Thompson Memorial Scholarship – $1000 This Scholarship is to be used for furthering education at a College, University, or Vocational training facility. No specific field of study.
  • Nancy Morehouse Agriculture Scholarship – $500 This Scholarship is to be used for furthering education in an agriculture related field of study.
  • Carl Maxey Memorial Scholarship – $1,000 This scholarship to be used for furthering education in agriculture or engineering related field of study.
  • Beth Johnson Memorial Scholarship – $1,000 This Scholarship is to be used for furthering education at a College, University, or Vocational training facility. No specific field of study.
  • Bob Keirns Memorial Scholarship – 2 scholarships – $1,000 each. These applicants must have successfully completed two years of 4-H work with a Livestock or Horse background. This scholarship is to be used for furthering education at a College, University, or vocational training facility. No specific field of study.
  • Jim Easthouse Memorial Scholarship – $1,000 These applicants must have successfully completed two years of 4-H work with a Shooting Sports Discipline background. This scholarship is to be used for furthering education at a College, University, or Vocational training facility. No specific field of study.
  • Bob Abrams Memorial Scholarship – $1,000 This scholarship is to be used for furthering education at a College, University, or Vocational training facility. No specific field of study.
  • Nancy Graham Memorial Scholarship – $1,000 These applicants must have successfully completed two years of 4-H work with a Horse Project background. This Scholarship is to be used for furthering education at a College, University, or Vocational training facility. No specific field of study.
  • Stener Carlson, Sr. Memorial Scholarship – $1,000 These applicants must have successfully completed two years of 4-H work with a General Division Project background.  This scholarship is to be used for furthering education at a College, University, or Vocational training facility. No specific field of study.
  • Larimer County 4-H Foundation General Scholarships – 6 scholarships – $1000.00 each These Scholarships are to be used for furthering education at a College, University, or Vocational training facility. No specific field of study.

All scholarship information must be included on the 4-H Foundation Scholarship Application form. Additional pages cannot be added to the application form. No font type less than 12 point will be accepted. Applicant needs to specify which scholarship(s) he/she is applying for. An applicant may be considered for more than one scholarship category as long as the names(s) of scholarship(s) are indicated on the application. The applicant may receive only one scholarship each year. (Exceptions may be made by the scholarship committee.) INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS MAY NOT BE CONSIDERED.

7. Two (2) letters of recommendation must be included with the applicant’s scholarship application form and received by March 20. Recommendations must be current and written no more than six (6) months prior to submission of scholarship application. Letters should come from diverse sources ie: 4-H, school, church, employment, community.

The letters of recommendation are not to exceed one page. Letters should reflect these qualities:

  • Positive character
  • Demonstrated leadership
  • Degree of responsibility
  • Displayed industry

Letters of Recommendation from current Larimer County Extension Youth Agents, Larimer County Extension Staff or applicant’s family members WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

8. A committee, appointed by the Larimer County 4-H Foundation President, will consider applications and select top recipients based on a scoring matrix, Applicants to receive scholarships will be notified by the Larimer County 4-H Foundation. Recipients are strongly encouraged to attend the Larimer County 4-H Foundation Scholarship Awards Social held in the Spring. The Michael Dickinson Memorial Scholarships, Nancy Morehouse Scholarship and the Bob Keirns Memorial Scholarships winners will be chosen by family members.

9. Scholarship recipients MUST notify the Larimer County 4-H Foundation President in writing of their acceptance and their school information or rejection of the scholarship and their school information. Letters need to be sent to:

Checks will be made out and sent directly to the school of the applicant’s choice; one half for the fall semester and one half for the spring semester. Checks will not be mailed until a verification of college registration is received by the Foundation.

Scholarship acceptance letters are due by July 20th of the year awarded, or scholarship will be forfeited.
